Every Moment Matters

When it comes to hospice care, one of the first questions on most families' minds is, "How can we afford it?" At Primecare Hospice, we believe that everyone should have access to hospice care, regardless of their financial situation. That's why we offer solutions that ensure no terminally ill patient is excluded from hospice care due to an inability to pay.

Coverage for Hospice Care

Medicare, Medicaid, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and most private insurance plans, HMOs, and other managed care organizations all cover hospice care expenses. Medicare will cover hospice care and related conditions, but it must be provided by a Medicare-approved hospice program. This minimizes out-of-pocket expenses, and in many cases, there may be no out-of-pocket costs.

How Medicare Coverage Works

Medicare Parts A and B cover hospice care services. Medicare Part A provides up to 100% coverage for hospice care related to a terminal illness. However, other hospice-related services may require payment of deductibles and co-payments.

It's important to note that Medicare's coverage applies regardless of the setting of care. So, whether a patient is receiving at-home care or is at a nursing facility, Medicare will cover expenses.
However, room and board at a nursing facility are not covered by Medicare. For this, Medicaid coverage is required. To qualify for Medicaid coverage, a patient must meet Georgia's eligibility requirements.

If you're enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan, your hospice care is still covered by Original Medicare. You can choose to get any Medicare-covered service that is not part of your hospice care through your Medicare Advantage Plan or Original Medicare.

What if You Don't Have Medicare or Medicaid?

While 98% of hospice patients are covered by Medicare or Medicaid, some patients may not have either. Private insurance may cover hospice services, but there could still be gaps in coverage. If your insurance plan doesn't cover hospice care, there may be other payment sources you can explore, such as charitable donations.

The smallest gestures can bring immense comfort and the tiniest smiles carry immeasurable value.
